It is one of the oldest living Christian architectures in Japan established in 1865. Built for foreigners in Nagasaki Iridai that was formed at the beginning of the curtain at the end of the year. It was designated as a national treasure by the Ministry of Movement, in 1933 (1933). After the restoration of the original bomb damage, it was redesignated as the National Treasure by the Cultural Property Protection Commission on March 31, 1953.
